FROM AWARD-WINNING
WASHINGTON POST WRITER
ALEC KLEIN'S
Beast of Love:
"You're a drunk, you're a
womanizer, you're lazy-"
I raise an index finger.
"A point of clarification," I note.
"What?"
"You forgot Godless."
"And you can't take anything seriously," she steams.
"Thank you," I say, tipping a hat that isn't there.
And so it goes between Miles and Sunny, warring next-door neighbors in an
uproarious comedy about the urban mating ritual. Miles, a public relations
executive in Chicago, is a slothful Lothario who relishes his self-image as
a dishonest, shallow and vain anti-hero. Sunny, though, forces him to
reconsider all of that. Along the way, Miles concocts an elaborate PR
scheme, ventures into the wilderness and finds himself attached to the leash
of an unwanted mutt. There's only one way to extricate himself.
Can he change, even if he doesn't mean to?
Beast of Love is a tale about looking for love . . . and finding grace.
