Ahoy, Maties!
All aboard for adventure!
No one had lived in the lighthouse on Rock Island for twenty years … not
since its keeper, Hannibal, mysteriously disappeared. Some say Hannibal's
ghost haunts the tower. Others say pirate ghosts from long ago guard their
horde of gems and gold that lay at the bottom of a cove. Many
searched for the treasure, but brought home only tales of strange noises
and bizarre incidents. When Zack and Curtis Himes investigate the legend,
they find more than cobwebs in the
dark, shadowy rooms of the lighthouse. The boys are engulfed by a world of
hidden passages, disappearing corpses, and a knife-wielding stranger, who
threatens their lives. The brothers' search escalates into a struggle to
stay alive. Can they beat the odds and solve the mystery … or will they
join the company of ghosts and haunt the island for all eternity?
From the Book:
The huge trunk cracked, exploding into smoke and flying debris.
"Look out!" Zack yelled. He grabbed Curtis, then lost his balance. They
both plunged headlong into the mud.
As a series of flashes illuminated the area, Zack struggled to a sitting
position. He shifted his weight in an effort to get to his knees. ...
Zack's heart leapt into his throat. Horrified, he realized he was
face-to-face with a dead man. He screamed, but his cry was drowned out by
the boom of thunder.
