While this planning handbook has been designed for first-time gardeners, we think that more even experienced part-time and dedicated gardeners will also find it useful. The book includes information covering the entire process of planning a garden as well as handy worksheets for keeping track of and focusing on important elements of the overall execution and maintenance. These worksheets provide considerable flexibility for readers who may tailor them, as needed, to individual requirements.

This handbook is an excellent place for gardeners to begin before buying any plants, digging any holes, or hiring any help. While basic information about plants and gardens, along with valuable pointers about how to garden, are covered, readers should note that this is not an all-inclusive textbook on gardening. The information is general and simple and is presented through a set of mini-lectures, each accompanied by a series of questions and worksheets to help focus readers on their gardens. Two appendices are also provided which include a list of books and miscellaneous sources to help readers get started or expand the current sources for experienced gardeners.
